Question 1 – Summarize and critically discuss the six patriarchal structures. Of the six structures, which structures do you think are the most important with respect to an analysis of gender inequality in Canadian society today? Why? According to Walby, what mistakes should we avoid when defining patriarchy?
Question 2 – Describe and critically discuss the primordial and social construction of “race”. How is “race” different from ethnicity? How does ethnic identity or racialization result from processes of social interaction? What does Peter Li mean when he argues that there is a racial component to Canadian identity? In your opinion, which form of racism should we be most concerned about?
