During the earlier part of the Post-Civil Rights Era, the Michael Jordan-led “stance of neutrality” was perceived as a movement away from the “committed black athlete” of the Civil Rights Era. However, since the 21st century, LeBron James has led a movement back to a stance of commitment and black community engagement among black athletes and others.
