The assessment consists of writing an argumentative essay that state a position on an issue and give several reasons, supported by evidence, for agreeing with that position. The argumentative essay requires the student to investigate a topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and establish a position on the topic in a coherent and concise manner. The essay should use five headings, containing an introduction, three headings developing your argument and refuting opposing arguments, and a conclusion. The essay should cover the following four elements:
•Position: This is the side of the argument that the author is taking.
•Reasons: These facts or points make up the ‘why’ of the position.
•Evidence: Supporting the position by providing factual substantiation from extant literature.
•Counterarguments: State and refute opposing arguments using further evidence.
