Bring two Register samples from your own writing on your UG modules in years one and two.
1. One sample should illustrate language choices that you would now identify as appropriate to the register of assessed academic UG writing.
2. The other sample should illustrate language choices that you would now identify as less appropriate to the register of assessed academic UG writing.
Evaluate your own language choices in terms of the following:
 What language choices would you identify as clearly part of an academic register and which would you consider less clear cut?
 Are there elements of language choice here that on reflection, you would consider were less appropriate to an academic register?
 Can you find examples in your reading from textbooks/journals in your area that would support this evaluation? E.g. over a number of texts, can you see patterns of language choices that strike you as ‘academic’?
