The use of drugs that are typically prescribed to treat neurodevelopmental and other brain-based disorders to improve cognition where there is no medically indicated reason raises a number of issues relevant for psychologists, including:
• Why might students be motivated to use these drugs?
• How do student measure cognitive enhancement?
• How do students assess the benefits vs the risks of using drugs “off label”?
• Is it fair that those students who can afford the drugs (or otherwise access them) are able to use them while others cannot?
