Introduction: (Approx 100 – 150 words)
Articulate what the innovation is and why it is necessary.
Offer a clear rationale for the choice supported with some contemporary evidence. (If there is none, say so and why this might be).
Offer a clear rationale for the change model or project planning tool you are using to structure the work. You may include why you chose this as opposed to others as this will form part of your critical analysis.
Main Plan: (Approx 600 – 800 words)
This will be dictated by the change model, or project plan you have decided to employ to structure work. If it is something like Kotter’s model of implementing change, discuss what you would consider in each section and why! (This should be supported by
contemporary evidence on management and leadership theories).
If it is the PDSA Model, then what do you need to consider in each of the stages?
Use the stages as sub sections of the plan if it helps.
Throughout the plan you need to discuss how you will go about introducing and delivering the innovation into clinical practice.
Things to consider for inclusion would be (however these do not all need to be in):
A Stakeholder analysis – who will be involved and why?
SWOT or an options appraisal to demonstrate if it is the only approach to taking the innovation forward/and demonstrate that other options are not viable for example due time constraints, resources.
Financial and Human Resource Implications.
Barriers to Implementation.
Change Theory and how it links to a particular stage of the plan/framework you are utilising. This discussion should include evidence of consideration to change theory/models and factors affecting successful innovation into practice (enablers and barriers).
Discussion/inclusion of how you intend to measure/evaluate/study the impact of your proposed innovation, using leadership or management literature to back up evaluation. Risk evaluation/avoidance.
Next steps following implementation. This may include how to cascade learning, what you have learned from the process.
Remember – The main elements of this work should be on the details of the stages of the innovation implementation, and critical review of supporting evidence for management of change within a team.
Conclusion: (Approx 100 – 150 words)
Draw together your findings, considering what your initial outcome was going to be once the innovation had been implemented.
Suggest if there is a better way forward now you have gone through the process and considered all elements of integrating the change into practice.
Do you still believe in your innovation and how will you cascade this moving forward.
