Observation 2
Part 1: Use the link provided in Moodle to watch the remainder of “Transition/Working Stage” (from minute 18:56 to the conclusion) and the entirety of “Early Development” in the Developmental Aspects of Group Counseling series.

While completing Observation #2, continue to utilize Facilitative Skills In Group Counseling (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2018) p. 38-45 to identify facilitative skills used by the group facilitator. Using the chart template, identify 5 therapeutic exchanges that utilize these skills. Include at least 2 different facilitative skills. Then, provide an alternative response that you may use in the exchange if you were the group counselor, and identify the facilitative skill it represents.

Client responses may be abbreviated using the first few and final few words of the exchange. Counselor responses should be transcribed verbatim.

CO: “As you listen to Jim talk, is there anything you could relate to from his experience?: Linking “You want to ensure your group members hold you accountable to your goals.” Reflecting I thought the group member needed more individual attention in the moment, and that moving to the group too quickly would make them feel dismissed.

Part 2: Use your readings and lectures to answer the following reflection questions. Response length should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs per question.

Question 1: How did you notice the facilitative skills change over the course of the group process? (Did some skills get used more, less, or differently?)?

Question 2: Referring to Contrasts Between a Working Group and a Non-Working Group (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2018) p. 283-284, would you categorize this group as a ‘working group’ or a ‘non-working group’? Use specific examples from the text to explain your evaluation.

Question 3: What are 2 significant leanings that have come from this group observation that you can use to inform your own group leadership?
