Assignment 6: Integrated Skills Lesson Plan
For this lesson plan choose authentic material** (a movie clip, a song, a newspaper article, etc.) and develop a complete lesson plan, i.e., include the aims and all the points in the cover page; include stages (presentation-practice-production) and techniques to achieve the aims of each stage, and create your own activities or tasks. After you choose the material and before writing the lesson plan, decide if the material can be exploited for one or more of the following points:
a. Language focus (material that contains target language you want to focus on. For example: modals, tenses, passive voice, reported speech, prepositions, etc.)
b. Stimulus (material that provides ideas for a discussion or debate, or a piece of writing)
c. Skills practice (material to develop students’ reading, listening or speaking sub- skills such as listening for useful phrases, intonation patterns, sentence stress, etc.)
d. Functional language (material that presents or reviews functional language and how it is used in a natural conversation as in requesting, offering, agreeing or disagreeing, inviting, apologizing, etc., including register, formal or informal functions).
As this is a very important lesson plan, keep in mind that your tutor would like to see your ability to develop a lesson from scratch including steps, techniques, interactive patterns and a good exploitation of the material you have chosen.
