What is the goal of an introduction?
To introduce the main idea (thesis) of your argument,
To introduce the objects of study that you will be focusing on, in this instance the films.
To offer some background information on the films and ideas you are engaging to orient the reader. These can be brief, like a sentence or two.
If you introduce a new term, be sure to define it for readers. Why? It gives your writing greater precision, and it demonstrates to the reader your interpretation of the term that you will be following over the course of the essay.
