Three Characteristics of Target Population Affected by SDOH
Age is the first characteristic of the target population. Social determinants of health affect old individuals’ health and ability to independently live at old age compared to young people. Considering age characteristics will describe various issues and challenges affected by different age groups regarding the social determinants of health. Gender is the second characteristic of the target population affected by the described social determinants of health. Gender interacts with the biological, economic, and social determinants of health to create various health outcomes for both females and males, which makes it vital to consider this prudent characteristic. For instance, social factors, including the rate at which women are excluded from public life participation or schooling impact their knowledge regarding health challenges and preventive measures. Income is another characteristic of the population affected by the social determinant of health. Individuals belong to a low social-economic class have a considerable risk of premature death compared to their high class counterparts, even when their habits are held constant. In this regard, age, income of social-economic status, and gender are indispensable characteristics of the target population affected by the social determinants of health.
