Paper details:
Please write about institutional analysis! This can mean dynamics between those of authority and those under that authority; like doctor and patient; lawyer and client. You may use examples and please properly cite your sources. Dialogue can work, too. Feel free to get creative! You may add your own citations and sources for whatever you see fit, please make it so that a person who has never read those specific sources that both you and I provide will understand the points being made, and what is within the articles/sources. Also, I am not quite sure if some of the sources I have given you are relevant, so feel free to disregard some of the materials.
This is an essay paper, so here are the questions (make each answer 2 pages long)
ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS. Be sure to include discussion of
specific examples from readings, class, etc.
1. Discuss issues involved in language attitudes and language planning (i.e. choice of a country’s “official” language, choice of language of instruction in schools, etc.) in two countries. What factors lead to the choice of language as
“official” or for use in schools, media, etc.? What are the consequences of these choices?
2. Discuss the issues involved in a community’s maintenance of traditional (usually indigenous) languages in the context of living in a nation-state with a different dominant language. What might lead a community to shift to the dominant language or to strive to maintain their own? Cite specific examples.
3. In what ways can language use in institutional, hierarchical encounters contribute to the construction and reconstruction of social systems? Cite specific examples from at least two different institutional contexts.
