Culturally sustaining leadership
Assignment 2: Challenges and issues for culturally aligned leadership – Essay
To better help you with assignment 2 which is an essay, work through module 3 also which discusses the Treaty of Waitangi. The assignment criteria will provide what you need to cover. Follow each of the steps. It is not a literature review, we do not need you to regurgitate what is already written, we need you to critique and argue the need for culturally aligned leadership based on what you identified in assignment 1 and then highlight the challenges and issues identified within a one size fits one leadership model. In assignment 1 you identified key concepts of what culturally aligned leadership might look like particularly with the two readings you critiqued. In module 2 you will critique school leadership within the New Zealand context, in particular the, “Kiwi Leadership for School Principals” (KLP). In assignment 2 you are required to engage in paradigms, cultural capital, power imbalances and knowledge hierarchies. When critiquing the KLP what challenges sit behind this model, whose knowledge counts, whose cultural capital defines what ‘effective’ leadership looks like and what power imbalances are at play. For international students, these challenges are not unique to the New Zealand context, rather one model is provided for this critique.
