Global HR
Start Up
Welcome to Module 10 – our last Module where we discuss HRM in a global setting! In our final module, we will take a closer look at some of the key factors, challenges and nuances of managing a global workforce. Globalization has led to Canadian companies relocating employees overseas or being on the receiving end of the same. New economic realities, coupled with technological advances have enabled organizations to conduct business beyond their borders. As such, HRM needs to revisit the topics we have covered in this course and think about how various HRM functions play out in an ever increasingly connected world where you need to manage a workforce beyond your borders.

Learning Outcomes

Design strategies to minimize the impact on the individual and the organization due to globalization.
HRM in a Global Setting
Economic, legal, and cultural variables take on a whole new meaning once you start managing employees beyond your borders. In previous modules, we acknowledged such differences from one province to another, so you can only imagine the scope when considering operating in another country!
For HR to be an effective partner to the business, and support the business in the achievement of its organizational strategic objectives, it must adapt and reflect the difference in culture, economy, technology, demographics, etc. in the policies, procedures and the day-to-day functions of human resources management. Specifically, if you were to manage a workforce that is located in another country (maybe a subsidiary of the organization), you must pay close attention to cultural, legal, political, economic (labour cost), and labour relations factors.
