Select a single document from the Jacksonian Reader (i.e. Marshall’s ruling on the Indian Removal Act) that addresses a key political or social issue of the Jacksonian Era. The response will need to follow each of these parameters:
1) You will need to establish the context of the document (what, when, and where) to demonstrate your understanding of the time period. This will briefly introduce the source and the author’s purpose for writing it.
2) Explain the author’s argument by addressing your interpretation of key statements that highlight his/her purpose for creating this source and what political or social issue in American society at that time was being addressed and why.
3) Explain how this source represents a specific change in America’s concept of democracy ( i.e. racial or social equality, social mobility, balance of power between the three branches of government.)
4) Use only the source, although the supporting course content and textbook may be referenced to help you develop your response.
5) No outside sources may be used. This will result in an automatic failure.
6) Length: One full page, single spaced. Anything beyond this will not count toward the evaluation of your work.
7) No in text citation or work cited page is needed but you do need quotation marks when quoting the source directly.
