My chosen area – Care for people living with Alzheimer’s
Choose an area of social work practice with a particular service user group. I have chosen Care for people living with Alzheimer’s.
Present a critical discussion of how social work has developed over the last ten years in your chosen area with a focus on anti-oppressive practice and anti-discriminatory practice and how these are implemented by social workers. Talk a lot about statutory guidance in this field. Incorporate critical perspectives and research evidence from British and International communities (overseas) and compare them. Also compare UK policies to overseas policies (within the last 10 years only). Reference the Care Act, community care 2018 and BASWA. Talk about the effects of covid 19 on the care people with Alzheimer receive.
Mention the fact that not many people know that Alzheimer’s kills more people than cancer, however cancer research receives a great deal more funding. Is this because Alzheimer’s effects mainly older people and older people are the forgotten neglected generation? After all they are old and are going to die anyway? Increase in people getting Alzheimer’s and at same time decrease in funding so is counterproductive.
