I don’t want to see a word or two or a few sentences. I really want to see you engage yourself in these questions and to really ponder and think about them. This is a philosophy class. Its all about the dialogue and the discussion. There are not right or wrong answers, just possibilities. A good philosophy conversation will go on forever.
Part I: Read and reply to the following questions:
1. Socrates thought that the philosophical conversation or dialogue or dialect was most important. He was like a philosophical midwife In what ways was Socrates like a midwife of ideas?
2. The Sophists were traveling philosophy teachers who charged a fee for lessons. Why do you think Socrates was not happy with these new instructors? Why do you think he was always eager to engage in a philosophical conversation with the Sophists?
3. Socrates said: “We should strive for excellence in all areas of life”. How do you understand this statement.
