Reflecting on your understanding of leadership theory, course concepts, and your own personal leadership style.

DESCRIPTION

The paper should demonstrate your mastery of the course content and learning objectives and describe your leadership learning over the course of the semester. It should reflect your understanding of leadership theory, course concepts, and your own personal leadership style. The paper should serves as a continuation of (next chapter of) your Personal Leadership Story from earlier this semester.

The paper has 3 components:

  • Personal Leadership Style: You should select a theory or theories that best represent your own personal leadership style. You should describe these theories and explain how they have influenced your past and present leadership experiences.
  • Personal Definition of Leadership: From what you now know about leadership, you will share your own personal definition of leadership. Be sure to include any values, assumptions, and/or experiences that helped you to arrive at this definition.
  • Future Leadership Style: Given your leadership learning just during out time together in this course, you should have some idea about your leadership future. How do you envision your future leadership style? What might it look like? How might it differ (or not) from your current leadership style, and why

DETAILS

  • Your paper MUST include and cite AT LEAST SIX (6) different theories or concepts introduced in the course materials or readings. These six can and should be woven throughout the 3 paper components. Please note that describing the delegating and coaching styles of the Situational Leadership theory does not constitute 2 theories/concepts. Rather, they are both components of the theory/concept of Situational Leadership.
  • In identifying the theories, it is important to be as specific as you can in mapping and helping the reader understand WHY you chose a particular theory for application. Substantiating your arguments with citations and quotes from the book/course material to support your claims not only helps the uninformed reader understand the material and terms, it also helps to further support your choice of theory in those particular applications.
  • The paper should include citations, both in-text and in a reference/work cited list formatted appropriately and consistently for the style guide of your choosing (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).
  • Your paper should be approximately 6-7 pages, not including any cover pages or reference lists required by your style guide of choice (e.g., APA, MLA, etc.).
  • NO LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.

HELPFUL TIPS: FINAL PAPER

No unread replies.No repli

  • The Final Paper builds upon the first two paper assignments. Your Personal Leadership Story and Learning Plan was reflective in nature, and the Application of Theory paper gave you an opportunity to identify and discuss leadership theories at work in others. The Final Paper asks you to reflect on and continue to build on the work of these first two papers. It gives you an opportunity to identify and apply the leadership theories and concepts we have discussed in the course to your own life to date and asks you consider what your leadership future might hold.Be sure you cover all 3 components of the assignment fully: Personal Leadership Style, Personal Definition of Leadership, and Future Leadership Style. A description of each component is included in the assignment details above. Give each component the attention and discussion it deserves.
  • Because it serves as the final exam, this paper asks you to demonstrate your mastery of course content and learning objectives and to describe your leadership learning over the course of the semester. I realize there are a number of great leadership theories and concepts we did not cover this term (there just is not enough time in the semester to cover it all!). I also understand you may identify with some of these. For the purpose of this assignment, and to ensure I can assess your mastery of the learning objectives for the class, you should only select and utilize leadership theories and concepts covered in the course material presented.
  • The assignment requires you to utilize AT LEAST SIX (6) leadership theories/concepts covered in course materials (there is no extra credit for using more than 6).These six can and should be woven throughout the 3 paper components. Please note that describing the delegating and coaching styles of the Situational Leadership theory does not constitute 2 theories/concepts. Rather, they are both components of the theory/concept of Situational Leadership. Be sure you are choosing 6 different leadership theories/concepts as you construct your paper.
  • As was the case in your Application of Theory Paper, the Final Paper asks that you applycourse concepts. This time, instead of applying those concepts to characters in a film, you are applying them to your own life experience and leadership story. Pay attention to the “what,” “why,” and “how” of your application. Consider the following example:
    • Servant Leadership is described as [paraphrased definition of Servant Leadership] (Northouse, 2016). Scholars agreed there are ten characteristics essential to the development of Servant Leadership. These characteristic include: X, X, X, X, … X (Northouse). I identify with this leadership theory because XXX.In my own leadership, I believe I display [characteristic 1] and [characteristic 2]. Northouse (2016) defined [characteristic 1] as “quoted definition of characteristic 1” (p. 227). In my role as [leadership role/experience] I relied heavily on [characteristic 1] by doing X, X, and X.
    • In this simplified example, I have highlighted the “what,””why,” and “how” in 3 different colors to demonstrate how you might go about your own process of applying these concepts and theories to your own experience. This example includes a discussion of the concept AND its application. Remember to write your paper in such a way that an uninformed reader can easily follow your explanations and application.
  • The paper should include citations both in-text and in a reference/work cited list formatted appropriately and consistently for the style guide of your choosing (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).If you have questions about style guides and formatting, visit the More Resources page for helpful links and tools. You should cite any and all ideas/concepts that are not originally yours. Although some style guides suggest or require you include an abstract, those are not necessary for this course.
  • Remember, leave yourself enough time to proofread your paper several timesand/or get the writing assistance you need through the resources available to you.
  • Your paper should be approximately 6-7 pages, not including any cover pages or reference lists required by your style guide of choice (e.g., APA, MLA, etc.).
