DISCUSSION FORUM #3: THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
Our learning objective for this week’s Discussion is to better understand the historical debates surrounding the origins, character, and outcomes of the American Revolution.
Post to Discussion Forum #3 in response to the following questions (there is no right or wrong answer; just be sure to use evidence to support your response).
Lasting from 1775 to 1783, the American war for independence was lengthy by the standards of its day and in relation to all other wars fought by the United States (only the contemporary wars on terrorism have been longer for America). The American Revolution was as divisive and caused as much damage as the Civil War—neighbors
killed one another and confiscated or destroyed property; people within the same families took different sides in the war. Describe why the war was so divisive, then weigh the costs and benefits of the American Revolution. How “revolutionary” was it, in your view?
This week we will be conducting Discussion Forum #3 in separate groups. As was the case last week, you will be required to respond to the prompt before you can see anyone else’s post.
Your initial post to Discussion #2 is due on or before Thursday, June 21, before midnight.
Your second post—in response to others in the class—is due on or before
Saturday, June 23, before midnight.
History gives us a lot to talk about.
