Supervision and Leadership Within Changing Paradigms
As a leader in the social work field, you must stay current with the latest theory and intervention trends. Trauma-informed care and reduction of harm for substance abuse are more recent models in the substance-abuse field that was long dominated by abstinence and 12-step programs. What do you believe caused the paradigm shift, and how would you engage social workers in your agency in a dialogue about major changes in treatment methods for various conditions?

In a 4–6 page paper:
Demonstrate your familiarity with cutting-edge interventions, specifically trauma-informed care and the “reduction of harm” model.
Contrast both intervention types through use of existing literature.
Use existing literature to formulate a hypothesis on the emergence of these two new paradigms.
Explain how you would utilize supervision to help agency social workers or supervisees to align their work with new paradigms while attending to the DSM-V and NASW Standards for the Practice of Clinical Social Work, explaining the process in which they must engage to make the shift successfully.
