Podcast – Self-awareness
Today I am going to talk about Self-awareness and will try to find out what my level of self-awareness is and how it is related to the leadership in Healthcare.
What is self – awareness?
Self-awareness was first defined by Shelley Duval and Robert Wicklund in 1972. They proposed that at a given moment, people can focus attention on the self or the external environment.
Also, it is our actions, thoughts or emotions do or do not coordinate with our internal standards.
If we are highly self-aware, we can objectively evaluate ourselves, manage our emotions, line up our behaviour with our values and understand correct how others identify us.
It is hard for me to unbiasedly evaluate my strengths and weaknesses and come to the correct conclusion.
There are many ways to improve and cultivate self-awareness, but the biggest is to ask “What” instead of “WHY.”
Self-evaluation through the “Why” question could make you feel depressed and unproductive. The “What” question is more productive and focusses on future goals, rather than past mistakes.
Along with the self-awareness, the leaderships is going near.
The leadership is a process rather than a “thing” to be possessed.
Our values guide our decisions, the strength, and the ability to influence, create clarity and help to reduce the stress. The values guide our actions.
In Healthcare, all of us can be a leader.
There are many principals in Healthcare. The most important are
equality, dignity and humanity, the
responsibility of own judgment and actions.
Managing the risk and keep everyone safe.
Promote health and put people at the centre
as well as communication, record, and report. Update knowledge and skills and coordinating with other professionals.
According to Mike Bundrant’self-awareness test, I am above the average in my self-awareness, although the big picture is partly behind the curtains.
I gained a deep understanding and had many AHA moments in life but still, have details missing which are the key to move on to wisdom.
I could not find who said this sentence but liked it and want to share with you all; it is regarding the self-awareness and help me to recognise it.
It says:
“When you are self-aware, you can see where your thoughts and emotions are guiding you.”
