Teradata Corporation is a software provider of products and services related to database and business analytics. McCain Foods decided to engage in a business transformation project that would take them away from the traditional way of doing things. Due to the project, they introduced Teradata to the organization and have in turn utilized business intelligence in its operations (Coba, 2019).
Teradata has been used by McCain Foods, to manage, analyze and extract data into forms, that have improved the organization’s operations. Teradata used business intelligence to analyze data and provide details on manufacturing, production, and processing. Also, how, when, and where customers spent their money and, details on what products and services customers wanted was provided using business intelligence. With this information, Teradata helped develop new methods with new processes, branding, and products that were conservative with resources, faster and were what the consumers needed. Again, McCain foods were met with opportunities to make changes to how supplies were used and how factories were operated (Coba, 2019).
On the daily basis, Teradata provided real-time data on how the organization was performing using key performance indicators displayed on dashboards within the organization. This information was available to employees worldwide which reminded them of how they were performing and the impact they had on the organization’s productivity. These dashboards are used by management to generate data reports that help them keep track of other executive offices among others. McCain uses Teradata to get data on likely future occurrences and reduce accidents (Coba, 2019).
The competitive advantage of using Teradata is, they approach data in ways that allow organizations to understand their consumers better with data analytics. Teradata goes deeper into the data using its workload-specific platforms, to generate data that allows organizations to have a comprehensive picture of their customers which in turn increases their productivity and customer satisfaction (Mustafa, 2014). Understanding your consumers gives you a competitive advantage and an opportunity to take over your competitor’s clients.
Another company involved in data processing is Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP). SAP is a software development company, that develops customer relationship software, business operations, and management software. SAP is known for its Enterprise Resource Planning software. Just like Teradata, SAP is focused on improving business operations and customer satisfaction. The business operations involve all departments starting from customer management to sales, inventory, production, planning, finance, vendors among others (Guru99, 2020). SAP, however, creates a centralized system that allows data to be shared, updated, and accessed among departments within the organization. This promotes customer satisfaction, saves time, and improves productivity.
Business Intelligence is being used by numerous industries including computer software companies to construction companies. I think a business intelligence product would highly benefit the fashion industry. This industry is growing at an unexpected rate and meeting the fashion needs of consumers is becoming difficult. With business intelligence, it will be easier for companies to use data on sales, population, age, gender, etc., to provide real-time data that would assist decision-makers in attaining their goals and meeting customer demands. Business intelligence can also help the fashion industry in monitoring the performance of the various departments and making changes to the daily operations made (Andre, 2019).
