Through close reading, explain how one of the story/film pairs assigned for this course either supports or challenges the theory of adaptation expounded in Bluestone’s “The Limits of the Novel and the Limits of the Film.” Some things to consider are: the concept of “seeing” in both media, questions of objectivity and subjectivity, points of view, and
the aesthetics of time (particularly chronological time and psychological time.) Although Bluestone’s essay is considered to be a seminal work, it is dated: do not be afraid to question or reject Bluestone’s assumptions about the aesthetic limits of literature and film!
