Description and what to submit:
Students are expected to set up a small music management project over the course
of the module in line with their background and interests. This is a real-world project
to be pursued in a professional manner and informed by academic theory. The
assessment will be a 3000 word critical commentary on the aims, rationale,
methodology (incorporating existing models or trying out new ones are both
acceptable) and outcomes of the project; and should combine analytical and
reflective writing with critical theory. You should also submit extensive appendices
as documentary evidence of this project. This documentary evidence may take
various forms (and be in various media).
Key marking criteria specific to this assessment:
• Demonstrate an awareness of existing theory and practice in the field and a
critical understanding of current trends and future potential of the music
industries.
• Show professional and effective project management by demonstrating the
development of clear objectives, skills in time management, problem solving
and innovative lateral thinking; resilience to setbacks; and a broad variety of
transferable creative, organisational and business skills.
• Develop a suitably theorised and integrated analysis of your key issues.
• Show ability to reflect on the project to produce recommendations for future
working practice.
How to submit:
You will be submitting on either DATA DVD or usb stick to the Music Office. These
should contain the reflective commentary as a PDF file and can also include
documentary evidence or appendices of this project in various media. Audio files
should be .wav or .mp3, video files should be .mov, images should be .jpg.
A usb stick is provided free of charge by the Music Dept Office for your submission.
