Purpose: The purpose of this position statement is to assess your ability to see common performance analysis issues through different lenses and create a well-articulated and justified response fit for different audiences.
Background: Performance analysis, like all disciplines of sports science, has commonly argued topics. However, these topics aren’t always discussed in the scientific literature; coaches and indeed the media provide new insights daily as to why a team or athletes win or did not win. Performance analysts need to be able to justify a position on a subject based on evidence emended in sound conceptual theory and be able to discuss the level of confidence they have in their opinion. Experienced analysts are able to have an opinion based on evidence and be able to discuss at an appropriate level given the strength of their evidence and have an appreciation of their audience to ensure the interpretation of their statements are clear.

You are required to develop a position statement on the below topic based on evidence and which they can support through logical argument:
• Research issues in performance analysis
The position statement will be targeted to an academic audience. This should incorporate at least 5 external reference sources. The position statement will be required to include an accurate reflection of the issue, provide a logical flow of arguments and include counter claims and rebuttals that exist on their issue.
