Speak about what is your system failure. – lack of consistent care to foster placements in the form of coginative development, coping skills, and emotional intelligence for furthered use. There is no required counseling or assessments for the majority of foster kids.
Why does this system failure stand out to you? – there are only some children required care and counseling when removed from their families. Although these children are placed with families for a supposed better out come why do so many fail through out life.
Why is this important? If given the opportunity to intervene in a child’s life during the developmental phases, the child would then have greater opportunity to succeed irrelevant of their current trauma.
What do you think would bring about change? Mandatory assessments, counseling, mentorship, and appropriate life skills development would further arm these at risk children.
what the risk factors involved? risk factors may vary however majority of children will possess transgenerational, cultural, family, and for many economic or crisis.
ACES-would be a valuable tool in in gauging any child.
What the current practice – most Foster children only receive counseling or added asisstance if the child themselves is in traumatic crisis, AODA, on the verge of or already criminally involved.
You should also reflect what the proposed changes would work to fix in our broken system. Note: is there any program being utilized to mentor and strengthen Foster children for better success?
