Every year Edinburgh Napier University face the challenge of preparing accounting graduates for their future job within the industry and meeting the expectations of professional bodies such as ACCA or CIMA.
The main goal of this dissertation to find out whether Edinburgh Napier University accounting students are properly prepared to move from university to the employment in the accounting industry. This paper will review the hiring requirements of different UK accounting companies comparing with students’ experience from their employment. This thesis answers the question: Are Edinburgh Napier Accounting students prepared to work in an accounting industry? by exploring four sub questions: What traits do employers look for when looking at accounting graduates? Does Edinburgh Napier University prepare students for life after graduation? Does the average accounting student feel secure in their current standing? What are differences from lectured topics and actual work in accountancy?
Additional question to answer: is there anything that Edinburgh Napier University should teach or include in the education of future accountants?
