Topic: In “On Compassion” and “On Dumpster Diving,” Barbara Lazar Ashcer and Lars Eighner both write about people who are down on their luck: Eighner as one who has been down on his luck himself; Ashcer from the perspective of the more fortunate. How do their differing perspectives inform their essays? Which perspective do you find more compelling and why?
