Critically appraise theoretical concepts underpinning high performance coaching.
Demonstrate the ability to transfer theory into practice using real world scenarios.
Synthesise high quality empirical research regarding working in high performance sport (e.g. journal articles).
Communicate effectively in written formats (e.g. clear concise and well-structured work, presented using the appropriate Harvard citation guidelines).
Independently manage work to agreed deadlines.
Task details and instructions There is one assessment within this unit. The assessment is an individual portfolio assessment and is worth 100% of the overall unit grade. Assessments will be submitted through the unit’s Moodle area.Students will prepare a 3,500 word portfolio that (part 1) explores the theoretical basis and current research understandings of one of the topics discussed on this unit and (part 2) identifies a strategy aimed at enhancing effectiveness of a high performance coaching environment. Students need to pick two different topics for parts 1 and 2 of the assignment. Students need to demonstrate an ability to critically appraise theoretical constructs and demonstrate links between these and the recommended strategies.
Guidance on size of submission Students will prepare a 3,500-word portfolio +/- 10% – i.e. the portfolio word count should be within the range of 3,150 and 3,850 words.
