“With reference to the causal theories of dyslexia, discuss the barriers to learning which dyslexics might face and outline some strategies which might be used to support them. Discuss how these theories fit with a Functional Skills (English) learner, outline the barriers affecting them directly and CRITICALLY EXAMINE POSSIBLE STRATEGIES which would be relevant to them individually.
Finally, CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE USE OF ICT as a screening tool in the assessment of dyslexia.”
This will include:
• An overview of the causal theories;
• An overview of the barriers to learning these are likely to produce in dyslexics;
• Some generic support strategies;
• How a Functional Skills (English) learner fits the theories (or not)
• Their specific barriers to learning;
• The strategy/strategies which would be relevant to them;
• An investigation of dyslexia screening tools giving their advantages and disadvantages.
