Part 1
The Population of Interest Projects
(You did not even address this part of the question, I provided the 4 goals in the document titled Healthy people 2020)Discuss how your population of interest (POI) project ties into one of the four main goals of Healthy People 2020. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (this is the correct title) who specializes in mental health, one of the main topic areas that significantly relate to my Population of Interest (POI) is the mental health and mental health disorders. Notable (we do not start sentences off with words like this in the US) objectives that are pertinent to my POI and mental health challenges Identify at least one topic area (out of the 42) that relates to your POI and your identified problem and discuss which (if any) of the objectives listed for that topic are relevant for your POI project. include decreasing the overall cases of suicide, percentage of individuals of 18 years or older, who are victims Major Depressive Episodes (MDEs)-this is not even a topic, did you even look at the topics. increasing the percentage of individuals of 18 years or older with serious mental illness, who obtain interventions, and increasing the rate of individuals with co-occurring drug misuse and psychological disorders who get interventions for the two diseases (Han et al., 2017).- (you only needed to pick one topic)The Health People 2020 policies can play a critical role in providing for high-quality healthcare to the patient with mental health issues, and also reduce the rate of premature deaths associated with such health conditions (Talih & Huang, 2016). The policies eliminate discrimination in the provision of healthcare services, promote the establishment of the social and physical environment for the support of good healthiness and enhance the quality of life, and health behaviors for all, including mentally challenged individuals.
Mental Health and Mental Health Disorders
Mental health and mental health disorders have been identified to be a major cause of disabilities in the US. Other challenges associated with mental health disorders include alcohol and drug abuse, unhealthy and unsafe behaviors (Lereya, Copeland, Costello, & Wolke, 2015), destructive practices and suicide cases. Mental health challenges have been identified as the subsequent principal cause of deaths for people aged 25-34 years. Psychological issues have also been associated with the prevalence and progression of major chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart diseases (Auerbach et al., 2016). The Healthy People 2020 under objective one place appropriate focus on tracking the suicide rates for the total population. In an attempt to reduce the burden of deaths and disabilities associated with chronic illnesses, it is also critical to consider the improvement of mental health care for all individuals.
Statistics have also indicated that in any given year, an approximate 26% of youths aged 18 and above are affected by mental health disorder (Reeves et al., 2011). Several factors have been associated with mental health issues. Such factors include age, gender, race and ethnicity and geographical location. The Health People 2020 policies are critical for reversing the negative consequences of mental health disorders. Such systems would be implemented to achieve four primary goals, which include enhancing quality of life and prevention of injuries and premature deaths, elimination of disparities in the provision of medical care, establishing a social and physical environment to support healthiness and advance value of life. The assessment of mental health and mental health disorder is a critical topic for the achievement of health goals of the country.
Part 2
The Impact of the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA)
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) were established to address the current population health issues (what current population health issue are you referring to) (Stoto, 2013). The rules were designed to encourage expansion of individual health insurance coverage. The primary objective was to enhance access to healthcare delivery systems which are identified for all health issues including mental health.
Impact on healthcare professionals. The provisions of ACA have a direct effect on professionals. Notably, the purpose of some provisions includes enhancing the quality of healthcare delivered to the patients. There are less well-known healthcare promotion provisions that influence the functioning of the healthcare delivery system. Professionals are expected to take responsibility for population health outcomes of their actions. The implications are that healthcare professionals must work within standards and guidelines to enhance the quality of life for their Population of Interest (POI). The guidelines also indicate performance measures that hold healthcare professionals accountable for their performances.
The proposal to overturn the ACA. The current government has expressed plans to rescind the ACA and substitute it with other healthcare reforms. The current laws and provisions outside ACA do not include spending by employers on health insurance particularly from income and payroll tax. However, the proposed changes would allow for the deduction of insurance premium from tax returns and to offer block grants to fund Medicaid plans. Unlike in the case of current ACA, the proposed reforms would allow the insurance firms to sell policies across different states.
The effects of proposed changes. The proposed reforms to the ACA would eliminate critical ACA market reforms. The individual enrolees would feel the impact of the reduction of cost-sharing and premium tax credit reductions. There would be prohibitions of any overturning and rebuffing health cover to those enrolled to current terms. The regulations would permit insurers to decide on premiums payable by individuals on basis of their age and smoking behaviors. In cases of such determinations, there would be considerations for health status. The Population of Interest (POI) would enjoy the elimination of several requirements as well as subsidies and introduction of new policies.
