Go to the US Census Bureau’s website and download the most recent demographics for Essex county, new jersey. Find the most recent projected population growth for that area.
Part 2
Search the NJ DCA website and find the most recent YTD statistics for building permits issued in your county. Find the total square footage of retail properties that have filed building permits. Using the table on page 136 in your text, calculate the average sales per square foot for all retail center types for the East region. Multiply this number by the total square feet of retail being built to find total projected sales. Using the information from the above table, calculate the average expenditures per person using the latest population projections from part 1. Separately, divide the total sales calculation by the total expenditures in the table to calculate the number of consumers it would take to absorb the projected spending. Is this number in line with the population growth estimates?
