Final Draft Capstone Project Guidelines
This part is when you will begin drafting your Final Projects and giving each other feedback. By now, you should have plenty of resources, pros and cons for the different arguments related to your topic, you have reviewed and hopefully connected with one or more real-world solutions to your problem. And, you probably have a strong opinion about this issue.
- Draft your final capstone project in which you argue for a chosen position related to your topic. As you draft of your project, answer following questions, using this 7-step critical thinking process:
- What am I asked to believe or accept? What is the argument?
- What evidence is available to support the claims? This could be bullet points or a short paragraph
- What alternative ways are there to interpret the evidence?
- How could I rate the evidence based on validity and strength? In other words, evaluate the evidence or the premises.
- What assumptions or biases came up when doing the above steps? Did you find any holes in the argument or any possible fallacies?
- What additional evidence would help me evaluate the argument?
- What conclusion can be drawn based on the evidence?Post a draft of your project in your topic group’s discussion forum, then read and respond to two students within your group with comments. Use the prompts for ‘peer feedback’ below as your guide in providing substantial commentary on your fellow students’ work
Comments from teacher- Your continued research has yielded a viable approach to reducing illegal immigration (the provision of work permits for immigrants already working in the united states, along with intensive use of visas), although the evidence you cite in support of your proposed solution could have been more convincing and well documented. It appears that you also think that, after reading your peers’ thoughts, there are additional ways to counter illegal immigration, such as elimination of the visa lottery, and reformation of citizenship by birth. Going forward, I’d like to see you present at least one additional approach to illegal immigration. I eagerly anticipate your thoughts on Part 3 of the Final Capstone Project!
- 2. Instructions for peer-feedbackGive each other feedback on your project drafts. You give at least two comments, using the following structure:
- Begin with a positive statement on your classmate’s work. Point out what you think they did right.
- Do you feel their response relies on evidence, or on opinion or intuition? If the latter, cite examples of where it relies on opinion and intuition and give suggestions as to how the writer can write more objectively.
- Add 1-2 feedback statements that you believe will help your classmate improve their work. You can use any of the following sentence starters:
- oThe most important thing I think you can do to improve is this…because…
- oThis one sentence was not specific enough because…
- oThis one idea that you have not fully illustrated with a specific example is…
- oI think you could have written more about….because…
- oI wasn’t sure what you meant when you….because…
- oI don’t think you needed to include…because…
- oI think you could have used transitional words in the following places…
- oOne type of grammar and/or punctuation error I noticed in your writing was…
