U.S. and Global Stratification
Students MUST cite textbooks, video lectures, or module materials. Overall, you should be showing me you have been reading assigned chapters, watching video lectures, and reviewing other module material; thus, students should show an understanding of the sociological concepts. The discussion board should be at least 300 words per question; there are two questions, which equals at least 600 words per discussion board.
Directions :
1. From Chapter 9 on Social Stratification, please do the following activity:
Go to playspent.org and play three rounds of their game.
Write a reflection of your experience and feelings throughout the game. Which was the hardest decision of the game? Also, write about how this relates to the statistics of this chapter
2. From Chapter 10 on Global Inequality, please do the following activity and report back as a concise paragraph, where you answer as many questions as you can on your research from an international product.
This activity focuses on one of the global theories, the global commodity chain. This activity will help you understand the concept of global commodity chains. This theory shows an interconnected set of processes involved in the circulation of commodities in a global economy. Think of a burrito. Where do ingredients for this burrito come from? Where does flour come from? Beans? Lettuce? Tomatoes? Meat? Chances are many of these ingredients come from all over the world. How is it possible? How do these diverse ingredients (commodities) come together in a single burrito that you buy for lunch? Sociologists and economists use the concepts of the global commodity chain to analyze how production, distribution, and consumption of a single commodity are coordinated across time and space.

Questions to consider:
Production:
What commodity did you choose?
Where is it produced?
What company produces it?
Who owns this company/corporation?
How much does it cost to produce this commodity?
What do workers earn for their labor to produce this commodity?
Distribution:
What company is responsible for the transportation of the commodity to other countries?
How is transportation organized?
Is there a separated company responsible for packing the commodity? Where is it located? Who owns that?
Consumption:
Who buys and consumes this commodity?
How much does it cost?
How often do people (let’s say you) buy this commodity?
