Choose some legal, ethical and professional issues relating to the selected case scenario and discuss them. What are they? How do they impact on patient’s care? What can a clinician do to limit the negative impact? What can a clinician do to improve patient care, patient safety and patient outcomes?
This is a vast area. Explore the literature and pick at least one legal, ethical and professional issue to reflect on. As this learning outcome says critically reflect you need to use a reflection frame model. Please give a sentcice as to why you have used the choosen reflection model.
Learning Outcome 2. Critically analyse and debate multi-professional approaches to healthcare.
Now, having discussed legal, ethical and professional issues, critically analyse available papers on multi-professional approaches relevant to the chosen case scenario and debate how joining up care and getting other healthcare professions involved can impact patient care. You should find that there are a lot of advantages to this approach, but it is not problem-free.
Learning Outcome 3. Explore and critically evaluate the factors that contribute to social differences and the impact of inequality and the needs of different social groups.
Finally, here, you will consider the chosen scenario and explore the literature on the identified social differences and their impact on the needs of the social group. As this is a fictional scenario, do not feel restricted and feel free hypothesise that there may be other issues in the family you responded to.
Learning Outcome 4. Demonstrate the ability to adhere concisely to the requirements contained within the assessment brief.
You have to adhere to the word count. If you go over or do not use available word count, you may not meet learning outcome 5 and have to resubmit.
Remember to structure your assignment well. You need a clear introduction, main body (use subheadings if you like here) and conclusion. There are certain characteristics that each of these has.

Case Scenario – An intoxicated patient in an emergency
You and your colleague respond to a 66-year-old patient with chest pains. On arrival, you note that the house is unkempt and has an unpleasant smell. During your end-of-bed inspection, you notice numerous empty bottles and cans. The patient is alcohol dependant. You learn that he had two heart attacks in the past. On your clinical examination, you find typical signs and symptoms of cardiac is chaemia. ECG shows an elevation of the ST segment on a number of leads. When you try to inform the patient about your findings, he falls asleep. You do not know how much of the information he can understand and retain; you know one thing, he does not wish to go to the hospital as on the previous visit he was not able to consume alcohol. He is adamant. You establish that his capacity to make a decision fluctuates and when it comes back, he does not consent to any treatment or being taken to a place of care.
