For the East Asian writers, the concepts of filial love, honor, worldly pleasure, and balance were areas of exploration and conflict. With this dichotomy in mind, how may the writing of Saikaku and Shangren epitomize this exploration and conflict? Further, what does each “define” as the needfulness of this conflicted exploration?
